We all have those days when we wake up feeling not rested. As the day goes on, we feel more tired. We yawn whilst we commute, drive or sat in front of our computer. These are tell tale signs of fatigue. Worry not, as there are supplements in the market that can give us an extra boost in energy to last us through the day. Here are 3 powerful pick me ups to help you launch your day.

1.  Panax ginseng

Panax ginseng or Asian ginseng as it is commonly called is a powerful herbal extract capable of boosting our energy levels. Panax ginseng contains a very unique saponin called ginsenoside that does this. Firstly, ginsenoside improves circulation by causing the relaxation of blood vessels. It is also anti-inflammatory in nature, thus preserving healthy blood vessels. Besides that, ginseng improves cardiovascular function by increasing the release of nitric oxide, which protec ts our heart by preventing the heart tissues from deteriorating. Hence, taking standardized ginsenoside extract of 50mg-200mg daily will help increase your energy levels.

2.  Vitamin B complex

A lot of times, fatigue can also be due to deficiency of nutrients. This is especially true if Vitamin B groups are in deficiency; they are essential in transforming energy from food to energy that we can use. B Vitamins include thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxine (B6), biotin, folic acid and cobalamin (B12). When the body lacks them, the energy generating ability of mitochondria will be severely reduced. Whole grains or unprocessed cereals are rich sources of Vitamin B groups. If whole grains are hard to come by or just do not please your taste buds, Vitamin B complex supplements are relatively inexpensive and can be easily found in pharmacies.

3.  Guarana

Guarana is obtained from the seed of a South American tree in the maple family, which contains a high amount of caffeine. Caffeine can increase our heart rate and improve circulation for a period of time, giving us a burst of energy. Besides that, Guarana supplements can also increase metabolism, making it a popular supplement for body building and weight loss. However, this supplement should avoided by people who have palpitations after drinking coffee.
